Dogs Trust – This dog rescue charity helps man’s best friend.

Making their annual appearance at the Pembrokeshire County Show, you may be surprised to know that Dogs Trust (formerly known as National Canine Defence League) has been helping dogs for over 125 years. The Trust was founded in 1891 by Lady Gertrude Stock, during a meeting at the first ever Crufts show, and is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK.

Over the years they have campaigned tirelessly on issues such as prolonged chaining, unnecessary muzzling and vivisection. They also came up with the famous slogan ‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas’ to help reduce the number of abandoned dogs after the festive period and more recently campaigned with the slogan ‘Dogs Trust Never Put A Healthy Dog Down’.

The first time I heard the term ‘Coasteering’, I took a guess that it would be like orienteering but focused around the coast.

Alright, I thought, trying to navigate our way along a stretch of the Pembrokeshire National Park coastal path would get us out in the fresh air. Now, walking along the coast path is a fairly straight forward activity so what could all the excitement be about; my son, Oliver was keen to find out 🙂

Rise to the Challenge and raise funds for Charity

Major cancer support charity Macmillan is appealing for people throughout Pembrokeshire to take part in the charity’s annual Dawn Walk fundraiser.

Macmillan would like people to take part by walking either the full or half marathon or the family walk from the Oriel Y Parc Centre, St. David’s, Pembrokeshire, to help support those in the community whose lives are affected by cancer.

Pembrokeshire Dawn Walk will take place on Sunday May 15th with the full marathon commencing at 6:00am, the half marathon at 9:30am and 4 mile family walk at 11:00am. The registration fee is adults £10 and under 18 £5. T-shirts to commemorate the event and water will be supplied free of charge.
