A Field Year – February

As winter draws to a close, Pembrokeshire is fortunate to enjoy a milder climate than much of the rest of the UK, averaging about 8-10 C. This year we had some hard frost, foggy starts and rain, but mostly this month was dull and grey. Being up in the field at dawn can still be uplifting and February dawns here are often blessed with “dragon’s breath” mist rising over the fields and valleys.

October in Pembrokeshire is usually the wettest month, but this year has been unusual and most of the month has been sunny and clear – ideal for the farming community to get the final grass cutting and harvesting done and to prepare the fields for winter drilling.
