Fishguard International Music Festival Announces 2017 Programme

Taking place at a variety of venues across north Pembrokeshire, the 2017 Fishguard International Music Festival will take place from 24 July – 4 August.

Highlights of this year’s festival include a performance of the complete Bach Brandenburg Concertos by Welsh National Opera Orchestra; a recital by 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition winner, Anna Tsybelva; a welcome return by the Gould Piano Trio performing a new work by Mark Simpson and the first visit to Wales by The Hermes Experiment.

This year’s festival includes two visits by Welsh National Opera Orchestra.  In addition to the performance of where to stay in Pembrokeshire Fishguard International Music Festival 2017the complete Bach Brandenburg Concertos at Neaudd y Dderwen, Rhosygilwen (28 July), the orchestra will give a concert at St Davids Cathedral (26 July) with Peter Donohoe as soloist for Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1.  Further orchestral concerts will be given by the European Union Chamber Orchestra at St Mary’s Church, Haverfordwest (24 July) and the National Youth Orchestra of Wales under the baton of Carlo Rizzi at St Davids Cathedral (4 August).

It is midwinter in Wales and I’m standing on a deserted beach – and I’m completely naked and letting the warm December sun dry me off. Because I’ve just been swimming in the sea (which on a bright day like this doesn’t feel anywhere near as cold as you might fear) and because I neglected to bring a towel with me.

I should hasten to add that there is no one else on the sands at Porthmynawyd Bay, and in fact no one else probably for a mile or so in either direction along the coast. That’s why I couldn’t resist discarding my clothes for a quick impromptu dip…

Camping in Pembrokeshire.

Visit Pembrokeshire. That’s what we tell people when we’re away.

It’s too easy to get caught up in the day to day routines only to find that we haven’t ‘visited’ Pembrokeshire for a while, ourselves…. and we live here!

So, this week we have opted for a change of vehicle that should enable us to visit more of the county and to stay out longer, camping in Pembrokeshire.

‘Poppy’ is our 32 year old VW Caravelle Campervan T25 1.9 litre diesel home from home on the road and will be base for these roving reporters this summer.
